Arts

Visual Arts
Students express their creativity through visual arts projects from preschool through 8th grade. Preschool teachers weave artistic expression into their curriculum, while Elementary students explore art through Meet the Masters: a monthly assembly on a different artist, followed by a parent-led lesson creating a piece in that artist’s style. The curriculum builds toward new mediums and techniques each year, and 7th/8th graders can take an Advanced Art elective.
5th and 6th graders take a weekly class covering basic skills and seven 3D drawing techniques, which Junior High builds on through design projects.
Performing Arts
Theater at Friends Christian gives K–8th grade students a chance to use their God-given talents for artistic expression, with performances before an audience throughout the school year. 7th and 8th graders can also choose the Drama elective, covering theater history, famous playwrights, genres, and stage terminology, plus practical work on monologues, scene study, and directing.

Music and Band
K–4th graders attend weekly music class, learning basic theory and experiencing instrumental and vocal music through listening, singing, and rhythm instruments, ending the year with a recorder concert. 5th and 6th graders continue with a weekly class to build on those skills. Preschool and Elementary students also perform in annual Christmas Programs featuring music, drama, recitation, and dance.
Middle School students can audition for the band program (Beginning or Advanced level), with performances around Southern California. Seventh and eighth graders can also audition for the Praise Band, leading worship during weekly Chapel.
Choir
3rd and 4th grade students can join a choir that practices after school and performs at various venues throughout the year. 5th through 8th graders participate in a choir that practices before or after school several times a week, performing in concerts, festivals, at theme parks, and outreach opportunities. Fourth graders can also audition for the Jubilation Show Choir, which blends musical choir technique with dance and theater skills.

A Broadway Stage of Their Own
Each spring, Friends Christian puts on a fully staged, Broadway-style musical open to both Elementary and Middle School students, K–8th grade, split across two casts of well over 200 students. This year’s production is Annie Jr.; past productions have included Aladdin Jr. and Mary Poppins Jr.
